Calm in the Chaos—ASA Can Help You and Your Students Ride Out the Credit Crunch

It seems like every day we hear a new development in the “liquidity crisis”: Lender A is leaving the FFELP. Lender B is rejoining the FFELP! Lender X will make federal loans, but not to your school. And in the middle of it all, you’re just trying to counsel your students to make wise decisions and ensure that no one falls through the cracks.

Sounds like you could use a little help right about now. The good news is that ASA is already watching your back—and we can partner together to do even more!

So, what is ASA doing to keep an eye on you and your students during this turbulent time?

  • We’re double-checking the list. Do all of your students have MPNs with valid FFELP lenders? Are you sure? ASA is running daily queries in our databases for loan or certification records with unapproved lender codes. And if we find a borrower who needs to switch lenders, we’ll let them—and you—know.
  • We’re reaching out. When we hear from schools with students who need to pick new lenders, ASA’s counselors promptly contact those borrowers and explain how to pick a lender and fill out a replacement MPN. We can help your students, too! Just give us a call at 800.999.9080 or contact your Client Manager.
  • We’re helping you adapt in the face of change. Now that your students may be changing lenders, your processes will need to change, too. ASA’s Client Managers can provide all the technical support and guidance you need to coordinate your operations with these new lender partners.
  • We’re keeping you ahead of the curve. ASA’s constantly developing new training sessions to keep you knowledgeable about the latest regulations and industry changes.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the impact of the credit crunch, but you haven’t gotten in touch with ASA, now is the time. We all want students to borrow and repay their loans successfully, so let’s work together!
