Music Studies Scholarship?
Dear Betsy,
I just read your article in the Metro and found it very informative. I’d like to ask you a question about scholarships. I am a green card holder and I want to study fulltime drums and percussion/composition-arrangement in Berklee College of Music in Boston. Would you please give me detailed information about scholarship, and financial aid as a Green Card holder immigrant?
Signed,
Atilla
Dear Atilla,
I’m so glad you found the Metro article helpful. Your best bet for a potential scholarship is to discuss your options directly with the Berklee financial aid office. They may very well have some “in house” scholarships or grants that you may be eligible for.
Another option available to you is to utilize the free scholarship searches that can be found online at http://www.finaid.org and http://www.collegeboard.org. Federal financial aid can be obtained if you can be considered an “eligible non-citizen”, which green card holders generally are defined, and the financial aid office can help you determine for sure. If you meet the criteria, you can apply for federal aid at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
I’m sorry I can’t give you more detailed information, but there are literally thousands of different scholarships out there and they all have different criteria. I encourage you, and any other reader looking for scholarship information, to play around with these free scholarship searches to ensure you have explored all potential aid resources.
Best of luck,
Betsy
